My Story

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step (and leather pair of shoes) - Lao Tzu Good Shoes take you good places

Khalid was born into an Amazigh (Berber) village in rural Southern Morocco. At a young age, Khalid and his family moved to the city of Taroudant. Between the age of five and seven, Khalid began an apprenticeship with a local sandal marker in Taroudant where his hard work ethic, artistic passion, and creativity was ignited.

Over the course of the next ten years, Khalid worked under various leather artisans, learning detailed talents and diverse techniques from each. This gave Khalid a unique balance between art and textiles creation. Having knowledge from multiple artisans allowed him to gain different perspectives and acquire numerous skills beyond standard sandal making.

As an eager young adult, Khalid started his own company in Taroudant selling his unique designs of custom sandals and bags from various textiles, Mosaic patterns, and colors for both the local market in Morocco and international customers.

In 2016, Khalid moved to California and continued making sandals from a self-made workshop in his garage. In 2019, Khalid began a shop for the public at LA’s Original Farmers Market.
